The first Brooms Up! of the 2013-2014 season is close at hand for the India Point Ashwinders.  The regular season officially begins this Sunday when IPA goes to Worcester for a match against Clark University Quidditch.  In a way it is quite fitting to travel to Clark the start the year for they came to Providence for the Ashwinders' opener last season.

Things are quite different for the young clubs than they were fifty weeks ago.  In mid-October 2012, both teams were brand new and were trying to learn the game on the fly with short squads.  Now, both teams are official, Tournament-level IQA teams with goals of attending Northeast Regionals and qualifying for World Cup VII.  IPA and Clark have seen some significant success recently: the India Point Ashwinders won SNEQC Cup 2013 and Clark defeated UMass Amherst, an attendant at World Cup VI, last week at the MQC/SNEQC Season Opening Tournament.  Lastly, both teams had very

successful recruiting seasons.  IPA and Clark now have legitimately sized teams full of young talent.  Now, the two teams will go head-to-head to see where the upwards trending teams are at right now.

For the second straight week, India Point will debut more of its recruiting class. Tyler Poole, a newcomer with several years of Quidditch experience in high school, will make his debut with the Ashwinders on Sunday.  Also making their debuts are Chasers Monica Chin, and David Reich.

The full lineup is:

Chaser:

Monica Chin

Leah Jones

Tyler Poole

David Reich

Derik Wagner

Beater:

Rod Hasbun

The final seedings of the two teams were right next to each other at the end of pool play at the MQC/SNEQC Season Opening Tournament (Clark-12, IPA-13) and both have some playmakers with the Quaffle in Clark's Stan Austin and Andy Lloyd and India Point's Jeremy Work and Derik Wagner.  These games could come to Snitch catches and have a significant impact on the standings at the end of the season.
