On Sunday afternoon, the India Point Ashwinders held their second home game and faced off against UMass in three intense matches.

The first match of the day didn’t bode well for India Point. UMass had a lot of success with passing to their chasers behind IPA’s hoops, giving them plenty of opportunities to score. Meanwhile, although the Ashwinders worked out their own strategy of drawing defending chasers or beaters before passing the Quaffle, they were unable to score. Beaters Chris Carchedi and Rod Hasbun had a little more success, making some great plays and keeping Bludger control for a significant part of the game. Upon returning to the pitch, Seeker Max Rosenwasser brought the first game to a close with a quick Snitch catch, making the final score 70-30* UMass.

GAME RECAP: UMASS

In the second match, both teams faced a new challenge: the increasingly muddy pitch. The Ashwinder end of the field was mostly a swamp, making the hoops difficult to guard and to approach. Field conditions did not stop UMass’s strong offense, though, and they still found several chances to score. Chaser Joy Yamaguchi also put in IPA’s first goal of the day due to good positioning around the hoops by David Reich and Derik Wagner, putting them on the scoreboard before the UMass seeker caught the snitch, with a final score of 140*-10 UMass.

After relocating to sounder ground, IPA and UMass commenced the final game of the day. This time, the IPA chasers had marginally more success in getting near the hoops. Their efforts resulted in two goals as well as one impressive near-score by David Reich. The first goal came from Yamaguchi making a great entry into the zone and feeding a beautiful pass to Rosenwasser (playing Chaser) who could easily drop the ball through. The second happened against UMass Bludger control. Wagner carried the ball into the zone with Beater Will Orton playing some offensive Beater. Wagner used Orton as something of a fullback, shot through to the UMass Keeper line, and fired a shot through the left hoop. In the end, India Point was still outscored by UMass who made some great long shots to supplement their play around the hoops. Nevertheless, the Ashwinders made some stops with timely Beats and a stellar block by Keeper Amanda Richards, which kept the score to a reasonable difference against a World Cup VII-bound team. After some off-pitch Seeking by Jeremy Work, Rosenwasser caught the snitch on its return to the field, leaving the final score at 110-50* UMass.

Rosenwasser was the standout of the day for India Point, scoring a goal and snagging 2/3 Snitches for 70 of the Ashwinders' 90 points on the day which improves his Seeking numbers to 9/15 (60%) on the season.

Next Sunday, the Ashwinders have an away game at Brandeis in the last game of the regular season and a battle for the second seed in the conference tournamet.  Brooms up is at noon.
